50 Years of Private Eye

13th January 2012

The V&A have been showcasing the works of Private Eye’s highly regarded cartoonists for the magazine’s 50th Anniversary.

The exhibition features 50 (one for every year the magazine has been published) of the trademark speech bubble front covers, as chosen by editor Ian Hislop, along with walls worth of original artworks spanning their five decades. Artists including Gerald Scarfe, Michael Heath, Ralph Steadman, Nick Newman, William Rushton, John Kent and Ed McLachlan, many of whom started their careers at the magazine. On show is also a recreation of the Hislop’s paper-strewn desk and ephemera from the magazine’s past campaigns, court cases and a life sized cardboard cut out of Tony Blair.

Check it out if you have a chance as it ends soon!
