Mix your media

5th November 2010

The current Aviva ‘Big Picture’ global campaign is well underway and has received plenty of coverage. For me, it’s not how it looks (real customers placed in large formats on large buildings around the world) but rather the delightful use of media in the main entrance in Victoria station.

Amazing what brands can do to help the consumer. Paul Frank have just launched a great initiative Julius branded bike saddle covers. Julius himself has been sighted kindly keeping Londoners bums dry! A promotion with a fun and helpful twist for the Barbican ‘Bicycle Film Festival’, that showcased new shorts, features and archive treats about everything bike.

Some cheeky and funky stuff from a naughty monkey that has some stories to tell. He’s been around for a while but we think he is conspiring to have more fun in the UK soon.

Luckily for Lotus Motorsport’s Stephen Wright, he didn’t hear the words, “Give me your boots, your clothes and your motorcycle.” from the Governater at this years Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California. He was checking out the new Lotus T125 with fellow car fan Jay Leno.  With livery and branding of the Exos Exoperience by Interstate, the car caused a real stir on the green.

It’s latest outing was on the stand at the recent Paris Motorshow, where the dawn of a new Lotus era was unveiled by CEO Dany Bahar.

The importance of seeing things differently

The importance of seeing things differently

24th August 2010

It is our job to see things. Firstly we have to see by learning and absorbing what a client represents and offers. Secondly, we must translate this into something tangible for the end-user to see, to understand, to associate with. But, this creative ’seeing’ process has two quite different facets.

How many concepts can you squeeze into one brand?

How many concepts can you squeeze into one brand?

23rd August 2010

The old ’60s joke of, “How many elephants can you fit in a Mini? – 2 in the front and two in the back.” has become embedded in popular culture and evolved over time to become simply a challenge. (For the record, the world record for the most people in a Mini – the BMW version – is 24).

Capturing It!

Capturing It!

5th July 2010

On more than one occasion recently I have noticed some quite prominent exposure of the font we used for the Play F.C. branding project. I suspect this is just coincidence and down to the fact that since using it I have become visually aware of its characteristics. Interestingly though, albeit for one example, the context in which it is used is far removed from the motive behind using it for Play F.C.

Why Design?

Why Design?

20th April 2010

‘Seeing comes before words. The child looks and recognizes before it can speak.
But there is also another sense in which seeing comes before words. It is seeing which establishes our place in the surrounding world; we explain that world with words, but words can never undo the fact that we are surrounded by it.’
John Berger, Ways of Seeing, 1972

Information Design Taken to an All New High

18th February 2010

No-frills South African airline ‘Kulula’ has uncovered, and highlighted, some informative and fun observations about one of it’s Boeing 737’s through a clever piece of livery design.
Although I don’t think I’m too concerned looking at where the black box is located, I’m now in the know where to find the all important ’secret agent code’. Having a (fun) study-up of all things plane-related before boarding definitely beats staring into space whilst waiting for your seat row to be called, any day!
