After Unilever became a new sponsor for the 2015 F1® season, they approached us to create bespoke collateral for guests invited to the Formula 1® race weekends. The aim was to emphasise both companies strong commitment in the areas of sustainability and expertise.

We accepted the challenge and created something that cherished this special partnership. See the work here.

We are sure that this is a long term collaboration and will therefore also bring more challenging tasks for Interstate, which we will tackle with new creative ideas, a strong team and of course speedy times …

Is the fastest a Formula 1® car has lapped the Mexico City GP Circuit. In this time Unilever produces 400 sticks of Magnum Ice Cream. At Interstate this is the time it takes our whole office to run to the kitchen when someone mentions “free cake”.

Is the fastest a Formula 1® car has lapped the Sao Paulo GP Circuit. In this time Unilever produces 700 bottles of 200ml Dove shampoo on one production line. At Interstate this is the time it takes us from sending something to print, to running to the printer and then sprinting back to the seat (considering the printer isn’t striking again).

Is the fastest a Formula 1® car has lapped the Monza GP Circuit. In this time the Unilever’s Casalpusterlengo factory produces 310 bottles of CIF Spray on one production line. At Interstate this is the daily time we spend fighting against the coffee machine to get the much needed coffee to keep us going.

When our friends at Natoora told us they would be taking part in the summer festival I got a little excited at the prospect of not only attending the event, but also being able to design something for it.

For those not aware of this sumptuous festival I’ll explain a little about it. The festival happens twice a year, once in the summer and again in the winter. This year’s summer festival was held in Regent’s Park and promised to be the biggest and best ever! They did not disappoint!

Businesses of all sizes are in attendance, from artisan producers to worldwide brands and small niche eateries to legendary fine dining establishments. There is an abundance of food and drink to be had and you are only ever a few yards away from a freebie or two. Including samples of the delicious white peaches from Natoora.

This year Natoora were on the same stall as master chef  Theo Randall, supplying all the fruit and vegetables for the shared stand. Interstate designed part of the stand including some large format posters, smaller sized chalkboards as well as limited edition bags that were given away with signed copies of Theo Randall’s latest book. The stand was always busy and the peaches were a big hit with everyone waiting for food.

Being from Scotland I did not let the good ol’ Scottish weather of rain showers ruin my evening. I ate the finest cuisine from some of London’s top restaurants. I drank Pina Colada from the inside of a scooped out pineapple and I rubbed shoulders with some of the world’s best chefs, not to mention the excitement of seeing the work we produced being used in the real world. As a designer there is nothing better than seeing your work out there and I’m sure every designer still gets that feeling of pride regardless of the scale of the job.

Founder and trustee of the charity, Sir Jackie Stewart recently unveiled the new identity at the Williams Conference Centre and gave everyone a taster of what is to come.

We’re excited with how the project is developing and we are looking forward to revealing more of the brand over the coming months – helping give this great cause the limelight it deserves.

Last weekend, the Interstate team took themselves along to the BBC Good Food Eat Well Show down the road at Olympia, London.

The exhibition brought together healthy food brands and producers alongside an inspirational line-up of healthy eating chefs and celebs. An opportunity to discover how to balance a healthy lifestyle with a love of good food.

The highlight for us was to see the BBC Good Food Eat Well book series on display – very popular it was too! 

Not only did we leave with full stomachs and bags of tasty foods, but also minds full of inspiration and ideas to share with our clients!

To celebrate this benchmark, BBC GoodFood has recently refreshed its identity and Interstate was tasked with bringing it to life across its highly successful set of best-selling books.

We created a fresh and colourful design, guaranteed to stand out on the shelves and easy to use in the kitchen.

We’ve been rather busy the past few months creating a new website for food and lifestyle photographer David Loftus. David needed to refresh his online presence, taking inspiration from his illustrative style, incorporating his various social media channels, and updating his website usability across different digital devices.

It was such a fun project to work on; our brief from David was a piece of his wall that he ripped away at for us to use as a visual benchmark! We’re really pleased with the new design – it’s a real fusion of beautiful images and clean white space, balanced with warm vintage touches, and can now be kept continually updated with David’s latest photographic adventures. And David is ‘very happy’ too.

This Easter weekend saw the first race of a new season for the British Touring Car Championship and the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. It was also the first race for our client, InterGTM‘s Porsche Carrera Cup team, Samsung Smart Motorsport.

All of the build up and hype boiled down to delivering a blistering performance this weekend. Weeks of testing, excitement, media launches, travel and preparation led to the first race of the season, which was held at legendary British circuit, Brands Hatch.

Our drivers, Michael Meadows and Richard Kent, knew exactly what was was expected of them, and with a strong, experienced team behind them, they went into the weekend confident and focused.

The qualifying round brought Michael into 2nd on the grid for race day 1, with Richard a little further back in 6th. The cold weather didn’t distract the drivers, and they both put in impressive displays which found Michael finishing 2nd and Richard finishing 6th. On race day 2, Michael started from pole position, with Richard again starting from 6th. The second race had more drama than the first, with Michael taking an unfortunate spin off the track. While trying to overtake on the outside of a corner, Michael received a rather controversial nudge from another driver, which sent him wide on the grass, resulting in a spin across the track and hitting a tyre wall backwards. Fortunately, the car was still able to drive, and Michael was able to put in some of the fastest lap times of the weekend, but only able to play catch up and finish 9th. Richard put in a consistant drive and secured a comfortable 5th place finish.

Across the two days of racing, Michael currently sits in 3rd in the driver championship, with Richard just behind in 4th, while Samsung Smart Motorsport sit comfortably in 2nd in the team championship.

From my point of view, visiting Brands Hatch was a fantastic experience! As I’ve been involved in this job since day one, it’s was great to finally see our graphics in a racing environment. Seeing the transporter garage, fully liveried cars, team uniform, all in application was incredibly rewarding.

As this was also my first time at a race weekend, I was unsure what to expect. The Brands Hatch environment was very exciting, despite the cold weather, and the race events were action packed and thrilling!

A great weekend in all, and I look forward to the second race weekend, Donington Park on the 19th-21st of April.
