Inspired Type
17th December 2009For many years, this letterpress block was hung in my grandfathers office above his bureau. As a boy, I would always look up and admire the beauty and allure of this wonderful piece of art – once functional, now inspirational. Thus my passion for typography was born.
This was handed down to me by my grandfather and I am now the the proud owner of this memorable piece. These typefaces once belonged to Salisbury Printing Press, owned by a gentleman who was a pioneer in cinema entertainment; Albany Ward. His cinemas were the first to be established on Salisbury Plain, mainly for troop entertainment before and during World War 1. The type was used for advertising posters in the region.
