Lose Yourself in a Good Book

Last Friday saw the re-release of Marian Keyes’ latest novel, The Brightest Star in the Sky, which we at Interstate are very excited about. Having been approached by Penguin back in October last year, following our hugely successful Jamie Oliver/Penguin collaboration, we were briefed to create a fresh new look for the Queen of Chick-Lit. With her writing described as wry, perceptive and charming, and with an army of readers already hooked on her grown-up brand of fiction, Marian’s books needed a cover to match this complex and intelligent interior.

Following much research into the lady herself and her audience, we settled on a typographic style which would allow growth through not only this current book and those to come, but also for the entire back catalogue. The final look uses connective lines illustrating the emotional journey that the reader is taken on, leading into key elements from the book’s content. The typographic look was softened by the publishers through the use of a sketched vignette and an advertising campaign, advised by ourselves, was rolled out at the end of last week. We even saw a TV ad over the weekend…
