Following on from my post Pressure London 2012: The Importance of Sports Psychology the journalist Matthew Syed has looked into what happens when you have reached your goal, you have won the gold…what is next in the mind of the athlete.

I could listen to Michael Johnson all day anyway but I particularly liked his comments – That there is a feeling that you can never have any problems in life after winning a gold but it does not work that way. He has come to know that when he thinks about his achievements he can smile, and it is a good feeling, but does it mean that everything in his life is perfect? Absolutely not.

So it looks like its the vision and then the journey to get there that is most important. Then, when you reach that goal, you find another. It might not be gold but having something to strive for in life is important in making us who we are, setting your own goals achieving them then finding new ones keeps us going. Always remembering those achievements is important and having a good understanding that what ever life may throw at you, those achievements never go away.

This is a really interesting piece. For me three points stood out.
That those that truly succeed, those at the very top actually use the pressure to succeed, opposed to working at blocking it out, which is hard enough I am sure.
That it is about the individual. It is having the confidence to know what works for you, it does not matter what the others are doing.
And last but not least it is also controlling the controllables, you can’t worry about the weather for instance.

Points to take through all areas of your life I think. A great piece and nicely put together.

Next time you’re passing by the studio, take a stroll down the road to Kensington Gardens and take in the Anish Kapoor installations (Turning The World Upside Down). Beautifully polished surfaces reflecting a dramatic Autumn sky.

These truly are things to behold (especially in the morning before the crowds arrive), but points deducted from one of the pieces where it’s under 24 hour guard and you can’t get the full effect whereby your reflection is the right way up but the world behind you is inverted. The people of London are too grubby or prone to vandalism to fully appreciate high-art.

The exhibition runs from 28 September 2010 – 13 March 2011. Anish Kapoor image by Dominic Lipinski/PA.

A Cool Intro to the World of Two Wheels http://www.interstateofmind.com/a-cool-intro-to-the-world-of-two-wheels/ http://www.interstateofmind.com/a-cool-intro-to-the-world-of-two-wheels/#comments Thu, 14 Jan 2010 18:12:58 +0000 http://www.interstateofmind.com/?p=79 The Glodos Bit Bike is designed as an introductory cycle for toddlers, it develops balance, co-ordination and psychomotor skills. Combining a simplistic, retro wooden chassis with oversize day-glo plastic wheels the ‘Bit’ has the looks of a concept bike that could have come from the likes of Honda. It also looks a bit like the bike used in Tron – which goes a long way in my book.
