The original Interstate design focused on the first iteration of the programme through the Institute’s Centres of Excellence. Now the Institute has made the most recent addition to its developing programme through the Young Driver Excellence Academy.

The Institute’s adaptation is still in evolution but its dynamics and modernity make a strong impression for the Young Driver Excellence Academy – with the gold shard, radiating from the centre of the ‘Vortex’. Still expressing the values of the organisation; Safety, Sustainability, Innovation and Excellence, the ‘Vortex’ marque now has youth and ambition on its side too – all under the watchful eye of former F1 driver and two-time Le Mans winner, Alex Wurz.

Richard Woods, Director General of the FIA Institute and long-standing Interstate client says:

“This selection event has been an incredible story for the FIA Institute. We started out with a process that was open to drivers across the world. After an exceptional response from the ASNs, we chose 18 drivers who arrived here in Austria on Saturday. From those 18 we have the 12 who will go forward for the season. But there really are no losers here. Those who haven’t been successful have spent three days in the company of world-class competitors and coaches and have had the opportunity to learn a huge amount.  Now we look ahead to our first year with the FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy.”

In the elegant surroundings of the AFC in Paris yesterday, FIA President, Jean Todt made a major mark in the first year of his presidency by announcing the launch of the FIA GT1 World Championship. The new world championship will sit alongside F1, WRC and WTTC as the FIA’s fourth fully accredited world championship.

Todt, appearing alongside championship promoter Stephan Ratel, was keen to acknowledge the work that Ratel’s SRO Motorsport Group had put in to make the championship happen. “You must be very brave to decide to become the promoter of such a championship right now. In terms of FIA World Championships, we have Formula One, WRC, WTCC and now FIA GT1 World Championship.
